Saying the Same Thing Differently
A blind boy sat on the steps of a building with a hat by his feet. He held up a sign which said: "I am blind, please help." There were only a few coins in the hat.
A man was walking by. He took a few coins from his pocket and dropped them into the hat. He then took the sign, turned it around, and wrote some words. He put the sign back so that everyone who walked by would see the new words.
Soon the hat began to fill up. A lot more people were giving money to the blind boy. That afternoon the man who had changed the sign came to see how things were. The boy recognized his footsteps and asked, "Were you the one who changed my sign this morning?" and continued, "What did you write?'
The man said, "I only wrote the truth. I said what you said but in a different way." What he had written was: "Today is a beautiful day and I cannot see it."

To Save A Life
The film tells the story of Jake Taylor, a young man who has it all: a basketball scholarship, the ideal girlfriend, and the right friends. But faced with the demands of the in-crowd, Jake has written off his childhood best-friend, Roger. Isolated and mistreated, Roger finally takes his anger to the extreme when he shows up one day on campus with a gun.
Jakes last-ditch effort cant stop Roger. And the events which follow rock Jakes world. He begins to question everything. But most of all, he cant stop asking: Could I have saved Roger?
In his search for answers, Jake finds himself looking for the next Roger. He reaches out to geeks, losers, and loners. But crossing the strict high school caste lines threatens everything Jake values. And pushes him to answer the most important question of all: What do I want my life to be about?
This film doesnt shy away from the real struggles facing our teens.. It is rated PG-13 because it portrays some of these issues accurately: from teen sexuality, to abortion, to cutting, to drug and alcohol abuse, to suicide.
But because it does so, teens are praising this film for its realistic and relevant portrayal of their world and responding enthusiastically to its message. As teen author and speaker Zach Hunter comments: It conveys the raw emotions of life and the ups and downs of high schoolMy friends who have seen the film are already talking about it and encouraging others to go see it.
A must see for all teenagers and parents.

Rochester House
Besides Botanical Gardens, SG & Karen also brought Isabelle to Rochester House (http://www.rochesterhouse.com.sg).
Lots of toys. Even consider using it for her upcoming birthday. But then too expensive. Very good for kids 2-4 years old.

Jacob Ballas Children's Garden
During a 1.5 week break, SF & Karen brought Isabelle out to various children places.
First stop is Jacob Ballas Children's Garden at Singapore Botanical Gardens (
http://www.sbg.org.sg/bukittimahcore/ChildrenGarden.asp).
Initially not very happy, Isabelle quickly warm up after playing at the water playground. We made a mistake of not bringing any toys for her. But God sent an angel in Jo & her kids & their toys!!

After getting wet, she started to enjoy climbing up gentle slope. Very proud of herself!
Isabelle trying to figure out some musical instruments made from dried fruit shell.
Huge slide & tree house in the middle of the garden. But too huge for two-yr old toddler.

Bucket List
In a survey done in North America, some old folks are asked what they regretted most about the way they live.
The 3 top responses are:
1) I'd have spent more time reflecting & contemplating.
2) I'd risk more.
3) I'd done more things that would live on after I die.
Good questions to ponder about. What's your "Bucket List"?

Austin Hills
The Eng family took a short trip to Austin Hills (Malaysia) last weekend with some cell/care-group church friends.
The room is exceptionally big! Can put 4 king size beds in it.
Isabelle met her favourite pet in the shopping centre!
And she discovers the joy of arcade!
All in all, it was short but relaxing trip. Must be thankful to Wilson & Belle for driving us all the way too.

Unloveable
SG was chatting with a colleague.
SG: My church has a saying, "Love God, Love People."
Colleague: True true. And we should add "especially the unloveable".
SG: Yup. But sometimes, we are the unloveable, rite?
Colleague: Why?
SG: 'cos we know the do & don'ts yet still make mistakes & do wrongs.
Colleague: That's true. 'cos the others who don't know Him may not know what not to do.
SG: Seems like we are the unloveables
Colleague: *nod* *nod*

Lunch
"Years ago, R. G. Lee told a powerful story about a mountain school that had a hard time keeping a teacher. It seems there was a group of big, rough boys who took pride in running the teacher off. The biggest and roughest of them all was named Tom.
"A new young teacher won over the boys, however, by letting them write the rules for the school--which were very strictly enforced with a rod. For example, cheating would be punished with five strokes of the rod, and stealing with ten strokes, both to be given with the offender's coat off.
"Everything went well until one day Tom's lunch was stolen. A frail little boy in hand-me-down clothes that were too big for him admitted his guilt. The school rules demanded that he be whipped. When the teacher called the little fellow up front, he came whimpering and begging to leave his coat on. The pupils insisted he obey the rules and take off his coat. When he did, a deathly silence settled over the room, for he had no shirt on and his emaciated body looked like skin stretched over bones. The teacher gasped and dropped the rod. He knew he could never whip that little boy.
"Suddenly, big Tom strode up and stood between the two. 'I'll take it for him, Teacher, for after all it was my lunch he stole.' He shrugged out of his coat.
"At the third blow the switch broke, and the teacher threw it in the corner and said, 'That's all, school dismissed.'
"The frail little boy laid his hand on big Tom's arm and through his tears said, 'Thank you, Tom, it would have killed me.'"

How To Engage Your Kids Today
A very thoughtful article. How true about iY generation!!
=============================================
Sheltered yet pressured, visionary yet vacillating, high achievement-oriented yet high maintenance, social yet isolated by technology — Dr Elmore detailed a list of contradictory characteristics in Generation iY to help give an idea of what parents today are up against.
Dr Elmore says children today are confused, and live in their own unreal “High School Musical” world where they shun responsibility and put off growing up.
According to Dr Elmore, most American children today believe that they only grow into adulthood when they first become parents, which is typically after their 27th birthdays.
